happy giraffe
I struggle. To let go. To say no. This picture of Happy the plush giraffe features not only its namesake but also bright pink flowers and, most importantly, interesting light. It is cool colored. Yet the fall off feels cozy. The direction, parallel to the wall, creates texture.
The lens, however, didn't feel right. So I said no and let it go. I tried others, also fixed focal length lenses. Until I found it: the friendslens!

Well, if you call it that, why no friends? Why a tasty waffle instead? Because my friends aren't here. They're on the other side of the screen, enjoying the pictures!
This lens favorite of mine, called "normal" by some, I found very not normal, no, rather extraordinary (!) when I discovered it. Nifty fifty. That's closer. But it's a 33 mm, so the name doesn't quite fit.
No. I insist: friendslens. It earned its name by being the lens I could hold up during a casual conversation at a table, at a Christmas market and, click, have a photo of a friend. And the background would beautifully, slowly blur into soft colors and sparkly light balls. Helping the friend to stand out.
It does the same for the strawberry, who is sitting atop its friend, the tasty waffle.
