el retiro

There's a park in the center of Madrid, El Retiro. When I continued my journey from Italy to Spain, this was one of the first places I stopped at. I was quite surprised when I saw a parrot - a monk parakeet, says my bird ID app.

This photo is not excellent in a technical sense. The shutter speed was too slow leaving the head of the bird with slight motion blur. It is, however, special to me, as I had never before taken a photo of a wild parrot.

This is a good contrast. It's a nice, sharp picture of a magpie with an out-of-focus background. But I see and take photos of magpies often, so it wasn't quite as memorable.

If you look closely, you'll se a dove and a sparrow on the lip of the elevated basin of this fountain. So even here birds are part of the picture.
