After the quick interlude about architecture, I want to show some butterfly pictures from my trip on the Toronto islands.

I think, it is an evolution of my flower photography to a degree. I really enjoy taking photos of butterflies, bees and similar insects on flowers, which act as an exciting, aesthetic and colorful background

However, using my manual focus, dedicated macro lens, which I can easily use on still flowers, becomes near impossible with these easily spooked, often very active insects. Instead, I captured this with big zoom (70-300 f/4-5.6). The reproduction ratio is "only" 1:3 while the macro can do 2:1. But the much longer working distance, auto focus (despite shortcomings) and image stabilization, have given me excellent results much more easily.

Back to the butterflies. A bunch of them were sitting in and around flowers on the islands. Some wood chips on the floor let me take this photo with a more neutral background. It lets the colors of the butterfly stand out more, I feel.

Finally, a green background creating strong color contrast with the orange butterfly wings.
